BlackBerry L-Series leaks out in live photos

Barely a day after we caught a glimpse of it in a teaser image on RIM's website, the upcoming BlackBerry L-Series smartphone emerged once again. A rather extensive photo session of the device has made the rounds, this time leaving nothing to imagination as far as hardware goes.

The live images of the previously seen, likely BlackBerry 10 flagship reveal what appears to be a well-built handset with a massive touchscreen. Connectivity looks to be well-covered with microHDMI port and NFC antenna present on the device. We also get to have a peak under the back cover of the device, which reveals a removable 1800mAh battery, microSD card slot, and the microSIM compartment.
With the hardware on the photos looking expectedly solid, it is up to the OS to deliver the goods and meet all the high expectations. We will likely find out on January 30, 2013, when BlackBerry 10 is scheduled to go official.

Research In Motion Got a Boost

 Research In Motion Ltd, for months enveloped by a wave of negative sentiment, got a boost on Tuesday when one of its most influential critics raised his rating on the stock ahead of the launch of RIM's make-or-break new line of BlackBerry 10 devices. 

The upgrade by Jefferies & Co analyst Peter Misek pushed RIM's share price into double digits for the first time in five months, with the stock up more than 3 per cent at $10.04 in early trading on the Nasdaq.

Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of BlackBerry smartphones has today made a very important announcement wherein the company has finally unveiled the date when its upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS will be launched.

 

RIM has announced that the Canadian giant will unveil its BlackBerry 10 OS and smartphones on January 30th 2013.

The event will take place simultaneously in multiple countries around the world, where details of the smartphones and their availability will be announced along with a detailed look into the new OS.

BlackBerry 10 Receives FIPS Certification with Mere Months before Possible Launch

Research in Motion Ltd.’s (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry 10 operating system became the first RIM BlackBerry product ever to receive Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) certification before its launch date, as announced on Thursday by the company.

FIPS certification, according to RIM Vice President of Security Product Management and Research Michael K. Brown, means that the operating system is able to fulfill the stringent security protocols of United States government agencies and enterprises.

In his statement, Brown stressed the differentiating factor of BlackBerry as an operating system (OS), which is being able to “integrate end-to-end security and include certified encryption algorithms for data at rest and data in transit.” Brown said that the BlackBerry platform is the only mobile solution to boast of such high levels of security for its end users.

Can BlackBerry 10 Help RIM Rival Windows 8?

Commenting on the upcoming release of RIM's BlackBerry 10 platform and RIM's ability to compete, analyst Neil Shah tells us there is a definite opening for RIM. "In this Android and Apple duopolistic environment, operators and consumers would welcome multiple choices to restore balance," Shah said. BB 10 could help "infuse some stimulus."

Have no fear. Research in Motion's BlackBerry OS 10 is (almost) here. The struggling Canadian company says it has reached a "critical milestone" for its new BB 10 software that could help pull the company out of its nosedive. The new software is expected for a March 2013 release and is now being tested by 50 carriers around the world.

"I'm very pleased to confirm that we have passed a critical milestone in the development of our brand new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10," said RIM's new CEO, Thorsten Heins in a statement Thursday. "In the last week, BlackBerry 10 achieved Lab Entry with more than 50 carriers -- a key step in our preparedness for the launch of BlackBerry 10 in the first quarter of 2013.
