The Netbook Creation and Evolution
Since the creation of the laptop in around 1981, not much has changed. Obviously with advances being made, condensing the size of different parts, the laptop became more compact and faster over the years. Compact for a laptop was still a pretty good size piece of equipment ranging in size from 13 to 17 inch screens weighing from 5 to 15 lbs, making them portable enough but still not that great an option for a user that is on the go all the time. This all changed in 2007 with OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) a company, whose goal is to bring technology to developing nations, making education more efficient and more effective.
When creating this computer, OLPC knew they had a tight budget and surprisingly came up with a really cheap product that is easy to maintain, fix, repair or replace without a high price tag or complicated equipment. When OLPC released their product, they sold around 300,000 in a short time, attracting the attention of larger computer manufacturers such as Acer, HP and others. This interest led to development which led to the manufacturing and ultimately the distribution of the consumer ready netbook in a very short time. After their release, it was reported by Amazon that in 2008, netbooks were all over the top ten buying list and caused laptop sales to double from 2007-08. Netbooks took the market by storm, that is a fact and an undisputed one but the question is why.

They came with the necessary components including on average a 160 GB hard drive, 512 MB – 1 GB of RAM, an optical drive, decent quality screen etc. The specs really weren’t that impressive but when you consider the fact you now have a computer half the size of a laptop with a price tag half the size as well, a computer suddenly became something many more people could afford. Also the size and weight made it a popular option for checking email, surfing the web and doing some basic document processing for the constantly on the go user. It was the combination of these things that made it such a hot sale and with technology constantly being developed; it was only a matter of time before an already good product became great.

Reliance Communications hikes call tariffs by 20 percent
Reliance Communications, a part of the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, has increased call tarrifs for its CDMA and GSM connections by 20 percent in selected circles, officials said on Sunday.
‘The tariff has been increased from 1 paisa to 1.2 paise per second in most of the circles,’ a senior executive said.
While for GSM customers the hike has been implemented on both calls made from Reliance to Reliance network as well as other networks, for CDMA customers the change will be effective only for calls made from Reliance to other networks.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Note and Wave 3 set for IFA
Samsung will roll out three new top-end devices at next week’s IFA tech trade show in Berlin: the Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Note and Wave 3. How do we know? All three devices are mentioned in the company’s official IFA Android app.
The news was uncovered by This Is My Next, whose source found mention of the devices while rooting around in the recesses of the Android add-on. Sadly, there’s no word on specs, although we can safely assume the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be a reboot of the original Galaxy Tab, using Android Honeycomb.
The Wave 3 will likely pack in Sammy’s own Bada OS, just like its predecessors. The Galaxy Note, however, remains a mystery.

Sony Ericsson Xperia ray preview: First look
Big is in with Android phones but the Xperia ray is eager to prove that petite smartphones have a charm of their own. All the horsepower of the Arc in a body that's a centimeter shorter both ways - think a premium saloon turned into a roadster. The Sony Ericsson Xperia ray has plenty to offer, not the least of which is an 8MP camera with HD video recording and a Bravia Mobile engine powered screen with eye-popping pixel density.
The combo Sony Ericsson have put together includes a 1GHz single core processor, 8MP camera with 720p video and screen expertise borrowed from Sony's TV department. It's the same concoction behind the Arc, the Neo, and the new Mini - now the Xperia ray.
On the face of it, the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray looks like a widescreen version of the Mini, but whereas the Mini is rather chubby at 16mm, the Xperia ray clocks in at 9.4mm (despite the bigger, 1500mAh battery). The camera is an 8MP unit to keep in line with the current crop of high-end droids.
The 3.3" screen of FWVGA resolution has nearly 300ppi pixel density (the Retina display has 326ppi) and we appreciate the mobile incarnation of Bravia.

Samsung’s Bada 2.0 is now live along with Bada 2.0 SDK
Samsung’s very own OS, Bada has now been finally graduated to version 2.0. The company had announced the development long time back and now it is finally out for the public. The SDK (Software Development Kit) has also been launched for developers.
The main highlights of the new OS includes better multitasking, new UI 2.0, support for NFC and Inter-Application communication, speech-to-text and text-to-speech, Open AL (Audio Library), in-app ads, HTML 5, push notifications and much more. The new OS will also be supporting three different screen resolutions: WVGA [480x800], HVGA [320x480] and WQVGA [240x400]. This means that we can expect new Bada phones to be out soon with the new update and higher screen resolutions.
Sony’s tablets get official name tags
Sony had announced its entry into the tablet market with two uniquely shaped tablets, namely the S1 and the S2. Well now they have new names, the S1 is now the Sony Tablet S and the clamshell designed S2 is being called the Sony Tablet P.
As for the specs go, the ‘S’ will come in a Wi-Fi only version and will have both 16GB and 32GB versions with Android 3.2 installed. It will be powered by a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, will have a front-facing 0.3MP camera and 1GB of RAM.
The dual-screened Sony Tablet P will have the same Tegra 2 processor with 512MB of RAM and will run Android 3.2 Other features include a front-facing 0.3MP, 4G, and Wi-Fi. It will come in 16GB and 32GB versions.

Google gets started with Southeast Asia Expansion, opens an Office in Thailand
We recently reported that Google is eyeing Southeast Asia for expansion. The search-engine giant has now taken a major step towards this goal by opening an office in Thailand, according to The Nation.
Google has appointed Ariya Banomyong, former Chief Commercial Officer of True Corporation’s Convergence as its first country manager for Thailand. Ariya will oversee Google’s sales and business-development operations in this country.
The search engine giant hosts a variety of Internet-based services and products and generates revenue mainly from advertising. The company is planning to encourage local businesses to go online successfully, and to increase online-advertising spending in the Thai market from the current level of only 0.3 per cent of total advertising spending to a level closer to that in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom, which have online-advertising spending of 30 to 50 per cent.
“The number of mobile-Internet users in Thailand is expanding rapidly, having grown three-fold in 2009 and 2010 to represent about 40 per cent of all Internet users. Every day, three out of every five Thai smartphone users employ a search service. This figure is higher than that in many developed countries, including the US, the UK, Germany and Australia. And the most important key word of these mobile searches is restaurant. Through their search behavior, these people are obviously telling us what products and services they are looking for. Our mission is to help businesses to utilize and benefit from this searching,” Ariya stated.
Thailand has around 25 million Internet users, and about 40 per cent of these users access the Internet via mobile devices. Of all the counties in Southeast Asia, Thailand has the highest number of searches – 55 million per day. This makes the country a potential market for Google in Asia.
