Study Claims That Gadgets Make People Happy

After surveying 35,000 people around the world, researchers came to a conclusion: Gadgets make people happy.

Researcher Paul Flatters of Trajectory Partnership explains:
Whether young or old, we’re all social beings, we all have a need for the things IT access facilitates.
He continued to add that:
Ownership of technology is a status symbol in many cultures…having a computer is considered synonymous with a good education worldwide.
So it’s not a matter of gadgets themselves actually making us happy, but rather the things they represent. The loved ones we maintain contact with and our life situations.
Really, A Great Research!

World's cheapest tablet 'Aakash' receives 3 lakh pre-launch bookings

The world's cheapest tablet, Aakash, costing about Rs 3,000, has received about 3 lakh pre-launch bookings for its commercial version that goes on sale later next month.

A subsidised model of this tablet, made by UK-based Datawind, is already being distributed free in schools and colleges. Aakash's retail bookings exceed India's estimated 250,000 tablet PC market, dominated by Apple, Samsung and Reliance.

"The bookings have been done without any money received in advance. We have identified an operator for a data plan at Rs 99 a month," said Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli, who claimed the data streaming technology offered by his company could make internet access costs virtually free.

"We hope to make internet free on our devices with that technology." Tuli is experimenting with a technology that can stream a 700MB file compressed into a 25MB on a tablet. Aircel could be the likely operator, said executives of the two companies, requesting anonymity.

iPhone 4S lowest model at Rs 44,500

Apple fans in India are set for a shocker. They will have to shell out Rs 44,500 for the lowest model of the iPhone 4s.

The handset's prices were out after Bharti Airtel revealed them on its website and launched pre-bookings on Friday, prior to the official launch on November 25. The 32 GB model is priced at Rs 50,900 and the top-end 64 GB model for Rs 57,500.

Aircel, the other operator to announce the iPhone 4S on its network will also sell this phone at the same price band.

Apple's earlier model, the iPhone 4 sells in India for Rs 35,500 for 16GB and Rs 41,900 ($816) for 32GB.

On November 24 (12am, Nov 25), select stores in all big cities across India will be opened for sales of iPhone 4S. But unlike the US and other markets such as Japan and Singapore, the midnight launches have failed to draw crowds in India.

The iPhone 4S is launching in India more than a month after it was unveiled in the US market.

Airtel is now offering the iPhone 4S on Pre-Order, starts at Rs. 44,500

We just bumped into Airtel’s website and found out that the recently launched Apple iPhone 4S is now available in pre-order. While this might be good news for some, but its a huge disappointment to many as the price of the handset is a bit too steep.

From the image you can see that the iPhone 4S 16GB version is for Rs, 44,500 and the 32GB version is for Rs. 50,900. The 64GB version is nowhere to be seen and we can only imagine how high the price for that might be (Rs. 55,000 maybe?).

How to Prevent Siri Access on a Locked iPhone 4S

Siri, the new voice command feature on the iPhone 4S, is a handy new feature that's pretty amazing. But it could be used by someone to play a pretty mean trick.

Siri, the new voice command feature on the iPhone 4S, is a handy new feature that's pretty amazing. But it could also be used by someone to play a rather mean trick on an unsuspecting person.
Macworld contributor Scott McNulty observed on Twitter that Siri lets you send texts and emails while the iPhone 4S is locked. So, of course, we tried it ourselves, and yes, it's true. While your iPhone 4S is locked, you can hold down the Home button to activate Siri, compose an email or text, and send it.
A nifty time-saving feature, right? Right. But Siri isn't tuned to a single voice, which means that Siri can be used by someone other than youto send an email or text from your phone. For example, we had aPCWorld editor pick up my locked iPhone 4S, activate Siri, and compose a resignation letter that was sent to my Macworld email address. (We didn't send it to my boss, just in case he decided to actually accept my resignation.)

Mango OS

Word of Microsoft’s plans to make Mango available to all Windows phone developers began percolating last week. Microsoft is making Mango available to registered developers for their existing retail devices
Microsoft also is making a new beta of the Windows Phone Developer tools available as of today, as well. Now known as the Windows Phone SDK (software development kit), the tools are in beta 2 (according to the download page) and can be used to develop applications for both the currently shipping “NoDo” Windows Phone operating system build, as well as for the Mango update.
Microsoft is making the Mango beta available via its create.msdn.com hub. Developers with a validated App Hub account are being allowed to flash the beta onto their retail phones. Developers are allowed to flash Mango onto only one phone per developer.Developers need to download the Beta 2 of the SDK before obtaining the operating system update.
